Selling Tips

How to sell your car fast in the UAE — and get a fair price

Price it right, prepare it properly, photograph it well and handle buyers safely. A practical guide to selling a used car privately in the UAE, plus when a managed sale or dealer offer makes more sense.

Most cars that sit unsold for weeks have one of three problems: the price is too high, the photos are poor, or the seller is hard to reach. Fix those, and most cars sell quickly. Here is how.

1. Price it against the market — not against what you paid

Search for cars like yours on TheCars: same make, model, year, specification (GCC or import) and similar mileage. Note the range. Then be honest about where your car sits in it:

  • Above the middle: full agency service history, GCC specs, one owner, low mileage, no accidents.
  • Below the middle: missing history, imported, high mileage, cosmetic damage, overdue service.

Pricing a little below comparable cars gets you more enquiries in the first week, when your listing is freshest — and often a faster sale at a similar final price.

2. Prepare the car

  • Clean it thoroughly, inside and out, including the boot and engine bay. A professional valet costs little compared with the difference it makes.
  • Fix small things that make buyers doubt the car: warning lights, a cracked windscreen, a weak AC, bald tyres.
  • Gather the paperwork: mulkiya, service book or invoices, spare key, owner's manual, and the bank clearance letter if the car was financed.

3. Take photos that sell

Listings with good photos get far more views. Shoot in soft light (early morning or late afternoon), in an uncluttered spot, with the car clean:

  1. Front three-quarter view (your main photo)
  2. Rear three-quarter view
  3. Both sides
  4. Dashboard and odometer showing the mileage
  5. Front and rear seats
  6. Boot
  7. Wheels and tyres
  8. Any damage, honestly

If you would rather not do it yourself, TheCars offers professional photography and video.

4. Write a useful description

Lead with the facts buyers filter on — year, mileage, specs, service history, number of owners, accident history — then explain why you are selling and what has recently been replaced. Keep it short and honest.

5. Handle enquiries and viewings safely

  • Reply quickly — the first buyers to contact you are often the most serious.
  • Meet in daylight in a public place or at home with someone else present.
  • Check the buyer's driving licence before a test drive, and go with them.
  • Don't hand over keys or documents before payment and transfer.

6. Get paid and transfer at the same time

Agree the price in writing, then complete payment and the ownership transfer in the same visit. Bank transfer or manager's cheque is safest. If the car is under finance, settle the loan and get the clearance letter first.
